Rent Category Definition

A category is a way of organizing products in a structured hierarchy. A parent category is the main grouping, which can contain one or more child categories. Each child category represents a more specific type within the parent category and holds the actual inventory items. This structure helps in managing, searching, and filtering products efficiently.

  • Parent Category – Main classification (e.g., Bikes, Kayaks, Apparel).
  • Child Category – Sub-classification under a parent (e.g., Mountain Bikes, Road Bikes under “Bikes”).
  • Inventory is always added under Child Categories, not the Parent.

Rental Group

Definition:
This group is for items rented for a price. Inventory is tracked based on SKU (Stock Keeping Unit).

Example:

  • Parent Category: Bikes
    • Child Category: Mountain Bikes → Trek X-Caliber 7 (SKU: MB-TX7-001)
    • Child Category: Road Bikes → Giant Contend 3 (SKU: RB-GC3-004)

Here, each bike is tracked individually in the inventory system, and customers pay a rental fee.
